Shelter
If you are a battered women in need of immediate shelter or services please call the Minnesota Domestic Violence Crisis Line toll-free at 1-866-223-1111 or Someplace Safe at 1-800-974-3359.
Leaving home and going to a shelter is not easy. You may be afraid of what your partner’s reactions will be, what the children will say, how you will support yourself, or where you will live. You may think your abuse is “not bad enough” to go to a shelter because others have it worse. If you are repeatedly abused physically, verbally, emotionally, and/or sexually by your partner a shelter is a safe place for you to go to with your children. You will have the time and a safe space to sort through what has been happening in your life.
Am I a Victim of Domestic Violence?
Ask yourself these questions:
- Does your partner ridicule or embarrass you in public?
- Does your partner use threats or intimidation to get you to do something?
- Does your partner get physical with you; shoving, pushing or hitting?
- Does your partner try to control or restrict your activities?
- Does your partner blame you for the way he/she acts or feels?
These are just some of the signs of abuse. Visit the Domestic Violence section to learn more.
