MN Government Shutdown Effects Us All
As of today, MN government has shut down after failure to reach an agreement on a budget for the next two years. So what does this mean for Someplace Safe? Until the MN government reopens, all non-funded Someplace Safe services will be unavailable for victims and survivors of crime and their families. Each of our nine Outreach offices are closed, eliminating local emergency and advocacy services across our region. Fortunately, our 24-Hour Emergency Crisis Line is currently open, with all local office calls also being forwarded to this number. Minimal staff will be available to answer what is sure to be a high volume of calls. At least 1,583 individuals called the Crisis Line alone in the past year - multiply this to now include calls not being answered by local advocates, and you have an incredibly high volume of crisis calls with access to very limited assistance. If you are in need of assistance, please call 800-974-3359. Local phone numbers will also be forwarded to this number. Someplace Safe is thankful to our supporters for your kind words of encouragement throughout this difficult time, and encourages you to share your thoughts and ideas with your local legislators. You can also stay updated on the latest Someplace Safe news via our Facebook page. It is up to each of us to work to ensure that our communities are healthy and safe for all!
