Someplace Safe Thrift Stores

Have you been using these long summer days to tackle that “to-do” list

and organize and declutter your home?

If so, chances are you have items that you are ready to part with.  The good news is that at Someplace Safe Thrift Stores, your cleaning and decluttering can help us to stock our shelves! That’s right – by simply getting rid of “stuff” that you no longer use, you can make a difference in lives of people in your very own community.

Here are some tips for donating to Someplace Safe Thrift Stores:

  • Gently used clothing, furniture, toys, and household items can be dropped off at the Morris or Alexandria Someplace Safe Thrift Stores at no cost to you!
  • A tax receipt will be provided for your donations.
  • Most clothing and household items are accepted at our stores. However, there are a few things we cannot accept – computers, cribs, car seats, box televisions, recalled items, broken items, pull out couches, bed frames, mattresses, box springs, Encyclopedias/Textbook, or weapons of any kind.
  • Make sure items intended for donation are free from stains or rips, are in working order, and are not missing any parts.  This will save staff and volunteer time, and ensure that quality items are placed on our shelves for sale.

Reducing clutter and getting rid of things you don’t use not only refreshes your home, it also benefits Someplace Safe and community members in need. Last year the Someplace Safe Thrift Stores provided nearly 200 vouchers, valued over $15,300. This directly helped at least 460 individuals and victims of crime in local communities.  These vouchers helped clients furnish their homes, clothe their families, and have toys for their children. And the items that don’t go towards vouchers are sold to raise funds for services. So no matter where your treasures end up, know that the simple act of donating your gently used items makes a huge difference in your community!
