Someplace Safe Opens Office in Pelican Rapids

Someplace Safe has expanded its services to better meet the requests for services from those in the Pelican Rapids community by opening a new standalone office location. The agency previously maintained a one day a week office space at the Food Shelf in Pelican Rapids. However, the growing number of local survivors reaching out for services, as well as increased referrals and requests for community education, helped determine the need for a full-time space. Someplace Safe provided services nearly 100 local individuals in the Pelican Rapids community in the past year.

Thip Prathane has been hired as the Crime Victim Advocate for the Pelican Rapids advocacy office. Prathane stated, “I look forward to helping crime victims, meeting the needs of our area and building a stronger foundation for survivors in such a beautiful community.

Hours at the Pelican Rapids location are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Services are available to all victims and survivors of crime, which are accessible in-person, virtually, via webchat, text message or after hours on the agency’s 24-hour crisis line. Interpreters are available (foreign language and DHH). Someplace Safe also offers specialized services for youth, labor trafficking and sex trafficking. Someplace Safe Pelican Rapids is located at 28 N Broadway. 218.464.9828 or otc.pelican@someplacesafe.info .

Sheila Korby, Someplace Safe Executive Director, addedSomeplace Safe has seen an increase in requests for services in Pelican Rapids over the past several years. Expanding the office to five days a week to better meet the needs of the community has been a goal of the agency for a few years. Having local accessible services for survivors of crime and violence is important for their access to safety.”

Someplace Safe will host its first local event, the Purse Bingo Fundraiser, at the VFW in Pelican Rapids on Friday, April 5th.
