Legacy Giving and Planned Gifts
Someplace Safe works to create safer communities in West Central Minnesota
by providing high quality crime victim services.
Safer Families, Safer Communities
For more than 40 years, Someplace Safe has provided safety, options, and hope to communities. Legacy giving and planned gifts enable individuals to make a sustaining gift to Someplace Safe, ensuring a safer, healthier future for victims, survivors and families. Please consider making a lasting gift to Someplace Safe by including us in your future financial planning. Leave a legacy for tomorrow by considering one of the planned giving opportunities below:
Legacy and Planned Giving Options:
You may make a bequest in your will by using the sample wording below. You may share the following statement with your estate planning attorney, or add to your will or living trust:
“I, (name), of (city, state, ZIP),give, devise and bequeath to Someplace Safe, (written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property) for its unrestricted use and purpose.”
You can purchase a life-insurance policy and bequeath it to Someplace Safe. Or, in the event you have whole life policies which are no longer needed to protect you or your family, you may make a change in the beneficiary so that Someplace Safe receives the benefit of that policy.
Consider leaving a percentage of your retirement plan assets to Someplace Safe. Unlike family members, Someplace Safe would receive the full value of your retirement plan assets. If you are determined to avoid taxes altogether on your retirement plan assets, you could donate them to Someplace Safe and build an inheritance for your loved ones from other assets. Contact your retirement plan administrator for a change of beneficiary form.
Ongoing Support Options:
Securities that are worth more now than when you purchased them, and that you have owned for more than one year, make excellent charitable gifts. When making such a gift, you may qualify for tax benefits. Contact your broker to make arrangements.
Donating appreciated securities, such as stock, to Someplace Safe is a tax-wise approach to provide hope for the individuals we work with.
Someplace Safe also accepts monetary donations at all levels from individuals, community groups and foundations to help maintain free and confidential high-quality services for all victims and survivors of crime in our communities:
Online: We make it easy for you to give a secure online credit card donation or sustaining monthly gift on our website. Visit www.someplacesafe.info/donate to contribute online. Your gift can be designated for a specific program or office, or given in memory or honor of a loved one.

More Ways to Give:
Volunteer Your Time and Talents
Someplace Safe appreciates and depends on volunteers and community members like you. Our volunteers do it all; support and accompany survivors to court, perform office related tasks, plan events, sort donations, and much more. Various individual and group volunteer opportunities are available in most of our communities. Contact your local office for details.
Host a Community Event
Someplace Safe welcomes the support of community members who take it upon themselves to host an event or benefit on our behalf. By choosing Someplace Safe as a beneficiary of your upcoming event, you not only help to raise much needed funds, but also bring awareness to our local communities about help available for those affected by crime and violence. If you wish to host your own community event contact our Director of Development at 218-739-3486 ext. 222 for more information.
Donate New and Gently Used Items
Someplace Safe accepts donations of new and gently used items at each of our local Advocacy Offices and Parenting Time Centers. Please call or email first, as we have limited storage space and our needs often vary from week to week. You may also donate your clothing, household items, and furniture to our Thrift Stores, located in Alexandria and Morris. Visit www.someplacesafe.info/get-involved/thrift-store-donations/ for more information.
Check with your employer’s Human Resources Department for more information on any applicable workplace contributions you may be eligible to donate to Someplace Safe.
Corporate Match: Many corporate employers sponsor matching gift programs and may match the charitable contributions made by their employees. Visit our website at www.someplacesafe.info/donate and type in the name of your employer in the search box of the online donation form to find out if they are participating in corporate matching gifts. Contact your employer for more information on their corporate matching policy.
Payroll Deductions: Donors may choose to make a donation to Someplace Safe through an automatic payroll deduction. A charitable payroll deduction allows a donor to spread their gift out over the course of a year. Plus, after-tax charitable donations may be deductible when you file your tax return. Check to see if your employer offers payroll withholding options for their employees.
