It can be easy to forget what matters most when things are going well. But, when we find ourselves in times where we are struggling, stressed or in a difficult place, the support from others can make all the difference. That is what Someplace Safe helps to provide to hundreds of individuals and families each year - that listening ear, that supportive hand, that safe place to stay.
This holiday season, we are reminded just how crucial advocacy and supportive services are for those in difficult or dangerous situations. The fear of not having that support can be the one thing standing in the way of someone finding peace and safety. We are again honored to share a story from a survivor and past Someplace Safe client about their experience seeking help and reaching out when they felt they might have no one else.
"When I was finally ready to leave my toxic, abusive situation, I didn't think that I had anyone who I could turn to, or anyone who would still be truly supportive. I had burned so many bridges by trying to be strong and not let others see that I needed help. I couldn't get away on my own, and I knew it. But Someplace Safe was there to help me. They supported me in ways that I didn't even know I needed at the time. It was a humbling time, but my Advocate was so supportive and strong - they helped make ME stronger and more confident. And in speaking with them, it helped me understand that I had done nothing wrong, that I had value, and that I was worth more than the relationship and situation I was in. I will be forever grateful for the chance to start again and for having a safe and supportive place to reach out."
If you or someone you know is in need of support, please reach out. Someplace Safe staff and volunteers are available to assist and listen 24/7, 365 days a year.
If you are interested in supporting our work, we encourage you to choose an option that works best for you, or reach out to your local office to learn more. Thank you for your ongoing support and caring this season and always!
